MIM (see specification of Metamodel for Information Modelling) is used within the Dutch government as a common starting point for drawing up information models. On the one hand, MIM provides clear agreements on recording data specifications and on the other hand, it offers space for the different levels of modelling. It was originally drawn up in the DSO (Digital System Environmental Act). It is now recommended in the NORA (Dutch Government Reference Architecture) and is being processed by the Standardisation Forum.
The MIM profile for education was created with the intention of making proposals for choices and adding extensions specifically for education. These choices and extension options were elaborated in working groups by Kennisnet and DUO. In the MIM profile for education, the working group adopts a number of working group positions that chain parties can use as starting points when they have chosen to apply MIM.
