Agreements on the use of standards are necessary to make the knowledge chain in higher education function. This chain ensures that scientific publications and professional literature are collected, made accessible and further disseminated. The Open Archives Initiative – Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) agreement makes it possible to collect (= harvesting) metadata from different repositories (= databases) in one central repository.
